Summer-ize Your Car with S&L Motors

Summer is officially here, but it’s not too late to get your car road trip ready. As temperatures rise and the sun gets more intense, you will want each drive to be as comfortable, safe and efficient as possible. Our team at S&L Motors, a trusted Chrysler dealer in Green Bay, WI, has a few tips for our valued customers preparing for summer drives and warm commutes.

Under pressure. For long trips to the lake or camping excursions up north, make sure your tires are at the appropriate pressure. When tires are properly inflated your car will achieve better fuel economy and will maneuver quicker in the event of an emergency.

Cool it. One of the biggest causes for summertime breakdowns stems from engine overheating and coolant malfunctions. When your vehicle’s cooling system is blocked with leaves or twigs, airflow decreases and makes your engine overheat. This leads to uncomfortable driving conditions and potential long-term problems or breakdowns.

Change it up. Regular oil changes are already recommended, but during hot summer days and long road trips you will want your oil to be at the optimal level. Consistently check your oil levels and replace it when the time is appropriate.

Check it out. An overall inspection can only benefit you and your car. Look over belts and hoses for tears, holes or excessive wear, and replace anything where it’s necessary. Also check your windshield wipers and fluid to prepare for the occasional summer rainstorms.

Charge it. Heat can put unwanted strain on your car’s battery. Have your battery tested and checked for corrosion, and make sure all connections are solid. If your battery is getting a little old, consider replacing it before taking any long trips.

Safety first. In the event of an emergency, keep a utility kit stocked with flashlights, a first-aid kit, jumper cables, water, food, paper towels and basic tools. Keep yourself and your passengers safe this summer!
