Chrysler Group LLC recently announced to the public that they plan to add 1,100 jobs at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant, JNAP, in Detroit. This news comes just a few months after Chrysler Group also announced that 150 jobs would be created at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant for production of the new SRT Viper model. Chrysler Group LLC is happy to create so many jobs in a city which helped give them their start. They plan on moving forward with the city by producing several fuel-efficient, environmentally clean vehicles, including Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel, which will be produced at the JNAP plant, as consumers’ preferences are now leaning towards more fuel efficient vehicles.
General Holiefield, United Auto Workers Vice President for Chrysler, stated recently that, “We are pleased to have Chrysler Group acknowledge the contributions of the UAW here in the Motor City by relying on our workforce to produce two of its most acclaimed vehicles. Our workers nationwide have had a rough couple of years along with the American auto industry and we are proud to be partners in building a future of success starting right here in Detroit.”
Once the new staff of 1,100 is hired at JNAP, which builds the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango, Chrysler Group will go with an operating pattern of 3-2-120 which gives employees an additional 49 days off, but at the same time offers the plant 49 days of annual production. At JNAP, there are almost a total of 3,000 employees who are employed.
